This was a study on mountains. and after i finished the painting i realized 1. the sky is not the right color and 2. the peaks of the mountain was so unrealistic. but oh well, thats what practice is for, right?
reminds me of a Bob Ross style of painting, was that your inspiration? I like your mountains just darken the shadow side with a darker blue/purple color that will create the more realistic side of things. Overall, very nice painting for a practice!! Well done
Yes, I watch a lot of Bob Ross to get me in the mood for painting landscapes, even though he paints in oil and this one was done in acrylic. but thank you! and thanks for the advice i will definitively try that next time
I used to watch him on the telly, and loved to copy his mountains and paint them with the pallete knife, which I got really good at. I also did it in acrylic's, that is what I had at the time...and it worked out just as well. What I keep in mind too, is that white should be kept for the absolutely last color to add to highlights when you're nearly finished your painting. I used the lightest values of colors to "mimic white". For example, Light blues for the light side of the mountain and darker blues for the shadow sides...it will make your paintings come alive. Also light greens and light yellows for highlights on your trees, bushes etc. Then "zing" it with a touch of white on top here and there and POW! Anyway, that's my two cents worth again...sorry I can't help myself lol.
no thats great advice! thank you. i know my paintings dont look so realistic because of the way i use white (like as highlights for the plants. But i learned the right way to do it as you can see in my painting "Faeries Playground.") im still learning, and im not primarily a painter so my learning is kind of on the slow side with so many other projects to do. but thanks again!
ah you're welcome. I just viewed Faeries Playground, and it's a lovely painting too, just like Three Peaks, and you're right When I first saw Three Peaks, I instantly thought that this had an asian quality about it, like how the Japanese paint, that's what I like it about it, it's so lovely to look at! I say too, that no matter how much experience you have, there is always more you can gain. I for one, is always learning something new about painting
